You don't need an expensive chair to fix a sore neck and back. A few small adjustments to how your desk is set up make most of the difference. Here are six.
1. Get your screen to eye level
The top of your screen should sit roughly level with your eyes so you're not craning down. A monitor riser or laptop stand does this instantly. See all stands and risers.
2. Keep elbows at 90 degrees
Your forearms should rest roughly parallel to the floor when typing. If your screen went up on a stand, add an external keyboard and mouse so your hands stay low.
3. Support your wrists
A desk mat gives your wrists a softer, warmer surface than bare desk, which helps on long typing days. Our desk mats also keep your mouse gliding smoothly.
4. Light your desk, not your eyes
Harsh overhead light and screen glare cause more fatigue than people realise. A screen-mounted light bar lights your work evenly without shining back at you.
5. Clear the clutter
A tidy desk genuinely lowers stress. Route your cables out of sight with a few cable management pieces and give everything a home.
6. Move every so often
No setup replaces standing up and stretching. Set a reminder to move every hour.
Start small
Fix the one thing that bothers you most first, usually the screen height, and build from there. Our bestsellers cover most of the list.
